Edremit (Van)

Edremit (Armenian Արտամետ Artamed, Kurdish Ertemêtan ) is a town and a district in Turkey. It belongs to the province of Van in eastern Anatolia and lies. Edremit is centrally located in the province on the southwestern coast of Lake Van. With 142 km ² Edremit is the smallest district of the province. The district has 24 677 inhabitants Edremit, the city of 12,629 (as of 2011 ). Edremit was established as a district only with the name Sarmansuyu and later renamed in Edremit.

History

The name derives from the channels Sarmansuyu ago, which had been built by the Urartian king Menua in the 8th century BC.

Inscriptions Menuas

An inscription is located in a garden at Menua channel ( inscription 69 at Harutyunyan ): Haldi the Mighty. Menua, son of Išpuini that created this channel. His name is Menua channel ( Menuai pili ). An identical inscription (No. 65 at Harutyunyan ) is located in the wall of the channel itself.

A further, more detailed rock inscription ( inscription 64 at Harutyunyan ) is located on a large boulder on the shore of Menua channel. It was presented in 1882 by Lehmann-Haupt and Walter Belck. The beginning is the same as the garden inscription. In the 4th line Menua calls his title, followed by the usual curse on those who destroy this inscription, blot out "or say to another " I have dug this channel ": it is to completely destroy the god Haldi, the God Teišeba, God Šivini, all the gods ... "
