Eduard Uhl

Edward Uhl ( born December 12, 1813 in Vienna, † November 1, 1892 ) was an Austrian jurist and mayor of Vienna.

Uhl was initially 1832-1840 Municipal officials and then privateer. In 1848 he served as a captain in the National Guard and was a member of the 1861 Vienna City Council.

Uhl 1882 rose to the mayor, in a post which he held until 1889. More particularly, Uhl began during his tenure for the fire and rescue services and the Wiener markets. Politically Uhl as a Liberal in a strong contrast to the Christian Socialist politician Karl Lueger and the German national camp to George of Schönerer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Humanitas in the (then Hungary ) Neudorfl (today's Burgenland).

His grave is located in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 14 A, number 27).

In 1894, Josefstadt ( 8th district ) of Uhlplatz was named after him in Vienna.
