Eduard Vilde

Eduard Vilde ( born March 4, 1865 in Pudivere, † December 26, 1933 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian writer and founder of the Estonian realism and journalist.

Journalist

Eduard Vilde came from a family of Gutshausbediensteten. He grew up in the manor of Muuga ( German: Münkenhof, now the town Laekvere ) on. From 1878 to 1882 he attended the district school of Tallinn. 1883-1886 he worked in the editorial office of the newspaper Virulane and 1887-1890 at Postimees. In 1890 he settled as a freelance journalist in Berlin. From 1883 to 1905 he was again active in Estonia for several newspapers, including at Virmaline in Narva, Eesti Postimees and Teataja in Tallinn and in Tartu Uudised. In 1896 he lived for a short time in Moscow.

Exile

Because of its activity against the tsarist government was forced to leave the country after the Russian Revolution of 1905. Until the February Revolution of 1917 he lived with his wife Linda Jürmann ( 1880-1966 ) in exile, including in Switzerland, Finland, Germany, the USA (1911 ) and Copenhagen ( 1911-1917 ).

Writer

After his return to Estonia, he was 1917/18 employed as a dramaturge at the theater Estonia. 1919/20, he was the Estonian ambassador in Berlin, where he lived in the diplomatic service of the young Republic of Estonia from 1920 to 1923 as a freelance artist. In 1923 he returned to Tallinn.
