Edward Augustus Inglefield

Sir Edward Augustus Inglefield, KCB DCL FRS ( born March 27, 1820 Cheltenham; † 5 September 1894 in London ) was a British admiral and Arctic explorer.

Life

Inglefield was already in 1834 for the Royal Navy and was a graduate of the Royal Naval College in Portsmouth. In 1840 he took part in naval exercises in Sidon in Lebanon today and then found uses in units of the Royal Navy in South America, where he was promoted as commander of HMS Comus on the Río Paraná to the Commander.

He went in 1852 on behalf of Lady Jane Franklin to Barrow Street to take part in the search operation for the British Arctic explorer John Franklin in the territory of the Queen Elizabeth Islands and bring the relief supplies Squadron located there. Then he examined the northern coasts of Baffin Bay. He named after Francis Egerton 1852 Ellesmere Iceland, 1st Earl of Ellesmere.
