Edward Van Sloan

Edward Van Sloan ( born November 1, 1882 in Chaska, Minnesota, USA, † March 6, 1964 in San Francisco, California, USA ) was an American actor.

Life

Edward Van Sloan grew up with three sisters on his mother in California, the father had died early. His family was of German origin. Until the First World War, Van Sloan worked as a commercial artist, then he moved to the stage. In 1930 he came to Hollywood to play the role of Dr. Van Helsing, which he had previously embodied in the play Dracula on Broadway in the eponymous film. He accepted this role again in Dracula's Daughter ( Dracula's Daughter) in 1936. Since Dracula, he was set on rollers similar to Dr. Van Helsing and played similar roles in the horror classic Frankenstein (1931 ) and The Mummy ( 1932).

Van Sloan but not only played the "good guys ", but took over in other horror films, roles in which he moved to the side of "evil", as in Behind the Mask ( 1932). Outside of horror scene and in the late years of his career his roles were small and not mentioned now and then in the credits. He spent the last years of his career primarily with the embodiment of Nazis and retired in 1947 from the Acting business back. Until his death he was only occasional interviews. With his wife, Myra Jackson he was married from 1911 until her death in 1960. They had a child named Paul ( * 1912). From Edward Sloan died at 81 years in San Francisco.
