Edwin F. Taylor

Edwin Floriman Taylor ( born June 22, 1931 in Oberlin, Ohio) is an American physicist.

Taylor studied at Oberlin College with a bachelor 's degree in 1953 and from Harvard University with a master's degree in physics in 1954 and his doctorate in 1958. Starting in 1956, he was assistant professor at Wesleyan University. From 1964, he was first a Visiting Associate Professor at the Education Research Center of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Later he became a professor and from 1979 Head of Films for lessons in Science (Education Video Resources ). In 1991 he retired from MIT and accepted a research professorship in relativity at Boston University.

He is known for achievements in physics education, for which he was awarded the Oersted Medal in 1998. He has written several books on relativity with John Archibald Wheeler, Spacetime Physics including. In the teaching of quantum mechanics, Feynman's path integral approach he supported, among others, because of its connection to the principle of least action in mechanics.

He also wrote interactive teaching software ( with the students Paul Horwitz and Slavormir Tuleja ), which was awarded with prizes.

1973 to 1978 he was editor of the American Journal of Physics.
