Effelder (river)

The Effelder is an approximately 15 km long tributary of the Itz in the districts Sonneberg (Thuringia) and Coburg ( Bavaria).

Course

The Effelder rises to about 800 meters west of the Fell mountain at Steinach in the Thuringian Slate Mountains. Then it flows through the place Mengersgereuth- hammering, which stretches some four kilometers in the valley. Below the village the Effelder continues to flow in a south-westerly direction in an arc. Sonnenberg - In its valley the B 89 and the hinterland railway ice rink run. There are also the places Schichtshöhn and Effelder. South of Effelder flows through the Effelder the place Döhlau before they crossed the border to Bavaria and ends after about a kilometer in the Froschgrundsee and thus into the Itz.
