In 1986 he failed for Canada starting in the middleweight ( 75 kg) at the Amateur World Championships in Reno already in the first round of the tournament at the Cuban Julio Quintana. 1988 at the Seoul Olympics reach the powerful Marcus against the first two opponents KOs. In the quarterfinals, he then defeated Sven Ottke on points, but stopped on the way to the finals, the batting and was there a chance against Henry Maske.

Professional

In 1989, he then moved into the professional field, but also as a professional light heavyweight he had constant injury problems. Above all, he prepared his hands problems that left little punch him on the one hand (only 14 fights in the first six years ), took his clout to another. The multiple KO previous Earl Butler, he could for example not defeat prematurely, just as Guy Stafford, who had lost the last four fights, including against a super middleweight by knockout. The only recognizable name on its balance sheet, the Olympic champion Andrew Maynard, who had previously been repeatedly KO and did not belong to the world class in the professional sector. Maynard lost prematurely because he gave up. Also it could not beat classic KO, as he had done as an amateur still in rows Marcus. He also had great weight problems, even though the professionals light heavyweight was four Kg above the amateur middleweight limit.

He got his only world championship fight on February 11, 1995 against his old opponents mask, but did not have the energy to balance out the fight and got high on points. He never boxed in this class. But even in the cruiserweight division, he was completely unsuccessful, he reached a draw and went against the rather weak impact Brian Laspada KO. His last few fights he competed as a heavyweight. After another early defeats in the battle for the Canadian heavyweight championship against Donovan Ruddock, he finished his career.
