Egon Henninger

Egon Henninger ( born June 22, 1940 in Kühlungsborn) is a former German swimmers, who won two Olympic silver medals with the medley relay.

Career

Swimming career

1959 won Henninger at a military sports festival as a member of the People's Navy, the breaststroke. Just one year later, the 1.74 meter tall athlete qualified as part of the all-German team for the 1960 Olympics in Rome. In 2:40,1 minutes he reached the fourth place in the 200-meter breaststroke.

1962 at the European Championships in Leipzig, he finished in third place 200m breaststroke. With the 4 x 100 -meter medley relay in the GDR in the cast Jurgen Dietze, Egon Henninger, Horst -Günter Gregor and Frank Wiegand, he won the European title.

For the last time the medley relay for the Olympic Games in 1964 was composed of two swimmers from East and West in the all-German team. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City Henninger reached the finals on the new 100 - meter breaststroke distance, finishing in eighth place, about 200 meters he finished sixth. The GDR Season with Roland Matthes, Henninger, Gregor and Wiegand once again took second place behind the U.S. season.

At the European Championships 1970 in Barcelona Henninger reached the fourth place on two individual routes. In the relay Klaus Katzur had taken his place.

At GDR championships he won in the 100 - meter breaststroke route from 1962 to 1970 eight individual titles, only 1967 won Katzur. On the 200 - meter distance, he won 1960-1963, 1966, 1968 and 1970. Egon Henninger presented both on individual routes, as well as with the relay world records Yards distances on. On the metric distances he presented in 1960 a new European record over 200 meters and 1964 a European record 100m breaststroke on.

Another career

Egon Henninger studied at the German College for Physical Culture. After his studies he worked as Sportinstrukteur at the People's Navy and rose to become Commander. He stepped to the ASK forward Rostock.
