Egon Monk

Egon Monk ( born May 18, 1927 in Berlin, † 28 February 2007 in Hamburg ) was a German actor, theater and film director, playwright and author.

Life and work

Monk grew up as child laborers on Wedding district of Berlin and visited the Berlin Lessing -Gymnasium. He took from 1943 to 1945 as Luftwaffenhelfer the Second World War, in part, to his responsibilities included the operation of the 88-mm anti-aircraft gun. Subsequently, he attended from 1945 to 1947 drama school and was directed by students at DEFA.

He left the GDR in 1953 and worked from 1954 to 1959 as a freelance writer and radio drama with the RIAS Berlin. 1957 Monk moved to radio drama department of the NDR, where he was from 1960 to 1968 Head of the television game department.

Private life
