Egyptian parliamentary election, 1987

Early parliamentary elections were held in Egypt on April 6, 1987, with a second round for nine seats on April 13.

The elections followed the changes in the electoral law, which was adopted by the constitutional referendum in February 1987, and which is now allowed independent candidates to compete in elections. The result was a victory for the ruling National Democratic Party, which was able to achieve a total of 346 of the 458 seats. this election, the National Assembly appointed the inkumbenten Hosni Mubarak for the post of president whose candidacy has also been proposed to voters in a referendum on October 5.

The turnout was 50.45 %, before the elections, a turnout of an estimated 25 % was expected. Leader of the Opposition was the Islamic Alliance, a coalition of the Socialist Labor Party, the Socialist Liberal Party and the Muslim Brotherhood for the first time.
