El Pinell de Brai

El Pinell de Brai is a municipality in the Catalan province of Tarragona, in northeastern Spain. It is located in the comarca of Terra Alta.

Geographical location

El Pinell de Brai is located about 70 kilometers west of Tarragona.

History

The place is because of its dominant position and the good opportunities for the defense of probable prehistoric origin. Immediately after the Reconquest, the town was walled. The fort of Pinell is first mentioned in 1153, in connection with the foundation of the fort Miravet to the Templars. This it was assumed. The recolonization after the reconquest began only 1198th Pinell remained under the rule of the Templars to extinction of the Order 1317. Among Carles III. El Pinell received market rights in the 18th century. Weger close to the Battle of the Ebro had badly affected by the Spanish Civil War, the population.

The festival in honor of the patron saint Sant Llorenç is celebrated during the week of August 10.

Attractions

The winery cooperative in 1918 built by Cèsar Martinell -style " wine cathedral ".

At the station of El Pinell de Brai the Via Verde de la Terra Alta, a bike path begins on a former railway line, which passes through numerous tunnels and over viaducts.
