Eleazar ben Arach

Eleazar ben Arach (also: Eleazar ben arakh ) was a Jewish scholar of antiquity, flourished about the year 80, and belonged to the so-called second generation of the Tannaim.

Also in the sayings of the fathers are sayings narrated from him ( II, 9).

He was one of the foremost disciples and highly valued favorite student of Rabban Johanan b. Zakkai, especially in mysticism ( Babyl. Chagiga 14 b).

After his death, he was not like the other students after Yavneh, but founded in Emmaus own house of study. But at this point he was very lonely, so he claimed Talmudic report ( Babyl. Shabbat 147 b ) all unlearned, eventually even read themselves.
