Elections in Namibia

In elections in Namibia, a distinction it held in Namibia since independence in 1990, four different occasions to those. Suffrage

Presidential elections

National Assembly

The Namibian Parliament elections ( National Assembly ) are held every five years since 1989. Six members are appointed by the President.

A place in the National Assembly received all parties to gain the mathematical ratio of at least one seat in parliament. In previous elections, this threshold was 0.62% to 0.82 %. A restrictive clause does not exist.

Regional elections

The regional elections in the 13 regions of Namibia were held every six years beginning in 1992. With the Regional Council election, 2010, the legislature was reduced to five years. The next elections will be held in 2015 and for the first time in 14 regions thus.

Who will win the most votes in his constituency with direct dialing, getting a seat on the Regional Council of its region. Thus, each Regional Council has just as many members as there are constituencies in the region. The governor of a region is directly appointed by the President since the 2010 election. Previously, this was chosen from among the regional members of those same.

Entitled to vote, the persons who are registered in the respective constituency are ( at least 12 months verifiable residence required).

National

The 26 members of the National Council are made up of two members of the regional councils together in each region. These are elected by secret direct election of the respective regional councils from among their ranks.

Local elections

The local elections, at the level of municipalities, cities and villages find, parallel to the regional elections held since 1992. It is by proportional representation with party lists on the basis of mathematical ratios chosen (see election to the National Assembly).

Entitled to vote are the people who live in the respective local area for at least 12 months.
