Eleotridae

Violettgepunktete Schläfergrundel ( Mogurnda adspersa )

The Schläfergrundeln ( Eleotridae ) are a group of small to medium-sized freshwater, marine and brackish water fish. They are a family of perch relatives ( Percomorpha ). They live in the world's freshwater and mangrove.

Features

Like all Grundelartigen have an elongated, cylindrical, circular in cross-section body Schläfergrundeln. The mouth is above or terminally. You own, unlike the gobies ( Gobiidae ), separate pelvic fins, the fin base is located but close to each other or even grown together. You always have two separate dorsal fins. The first has two to eight hard jets. Schläfergrundeln have 25 to 28 vertebrae. Most species are between five and 15 centimeters long. With a maximum length of 60 centimeters, the Gobiomorus dormitor is the largest representative.

Dissemination

Schläfergrundeln live in tropical and subtropical coastlines, usually in brackish water. In the tropics, Australia and New Zealand, there are also pure freshwater species.

Way of life

The fish live on the seabed, often between plants. Many species are revier -forming and solitary, often they live in small groups. Schläfergrundeln are often negative or crepuscular. Most species feed on all kinds of small animals such as insect larvae, worms, crustaceans and fish larvae. Some species also eat algae. They are substrate spawners, which lay their eggs in caves, on rocks or on aquatic plants. Both parents or the males guard the brood until hatching of juveniles.
