Elhanan Helpman

Elhanan Helpman ( born March 30, 1946 in Jalalabad, Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic, now Kyrgyzstan) is an Israeli economist. He teaches international trade at Harvard University.

Life

Elhanan Helpman was born in Dzalabad then Soviet Union. Already at a young age he moved with his parents to Israel. There he studied from 1966 to 1969 at the University of Tel Aviv economics. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and the predicate Cum Laude. In 1971 he received his Master of Arts with the predicate Summa Cum Laude. Then he went to the USA where he worked until 1974 took off his Ph. D. from Harvard University in 1971. Then he returned to Israel, there to be an instructor at the University of Tel Aviv. There he became associate professor in 1978. Three years later, he became full professor and at the same time for a year dean of the industry. In 1988 he was Archie Sherman Professor of International Economic Relations. 1990 to 1992 he was director of Foerder Institute for Economic Research, Tel Aviv University and in parallel from 1991 to 1992 director of the Sackler Institute for Economic Studies. In 1997 he received a professorship at Harvard.
