Élie Doté

Élie Doté (* 1947 in Bangui ) was from June 2005 to January 2008 Prime Minister of the Central African Republic. He has no party affiliation.

Career

Doté was born in Bangui, the capital of the former French colony of Ubangi -Shari and belongs to the ethnic group of the Mandja, which are located in the north of the country. He studied agriculture at the University of Montpellier. After his return to the Central African Republic from 1974 to 1980, he worked for the Ministry of Agriculture. Later he went as an agricultural expert with the African Development Bank, initially to Abidjan. On 1 August 2001 he became head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Bank, based in Tunis.

Prime minister

On 13 June 2005 he became the first prime minister after the introduction of the Constitution of the VI. Republic under the re-elected President François Bozizé. Doté was previously unknown in his homeland. For his surprising appointment saying, given the high debt burden of the country his good connections and knowledge of international financial institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Doté was when he took office foreign debt amounting to about 1.3 billion U.S. $ in front. Other challenges include the difficult security situation in the country and occasional mutinies by army units. A week after his appointment, he presented his cabinet from 27 ministers, with President Bozizé, remain responsible for the Department of Defense.

Family

Doté is married and has six children.
