Elizabeth A. Lynn

Elizabeth Anne Lynn ( born June 8, 1946 in New York) is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy novels and short stories. In 1980, she was twice awarded the World Fantasy Award.

Life

Lynn studied at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland (Ohio ), which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1967. The Master of Arts she made in 1968 at the University of Chicago. Subsequently, she worked as a teacher until 1970 and from then until 1975 as a senior hospital staff in Evanston and San Francisco.

Your first story we all need to continue once ( We all have to go ) was published in 1976. In 1978, following her first science fiction novel The word is perfection (A Different Light ). For her story, the woman who loved the moon ( The Woman Who Loved the Moon ) and for her fantasy novel The Zwingfeste ( Watchtower ), she was honored at the 1980 World Fantasy Convention with the World Fantasy Award.

From the mid- 1980s Lynn suffered from severe writer's block. During this time she earned their livelihood, among others, by teaching martial arts. In the late 1980s she wrote two stories. Five years later she had overcome with the completion of the novel Dragon's winter writer's block. Since then she has published other works.

Their stories are characterized by a sensitive psychological drawing her characters. She is often referred to as the representative of a " feminist science fiction ". Frequently recurring themes in her stories are gender identity and homosexuality.

In the journal locus of October 1997, an interview with Elizabeth A. Lynn has been published. It manifests itself in, among others, to overcome their writer's block and the novel Dragon's winter.

Elizabeth A. Lynn lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Awards

Also nominated in 1980 for the World Fantasy Award was her novel The Dancers of Arun. In addition, she and her works already for the John W. Campbell Award for the Best New Writer in Science Fiction, the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award and ten times for the Locus Award, most recently in 2005, nominated. Furthermore, their works were called on both shortlisted for the James Tiptree, Jr. Award as well as on that of the James Tiptree, Jr. Award Retrospective.
