Elizabeth Simcoe

Elizabeth Posthuma Gwillim Simcoe born ( baptized September 22, 1762 (or 1766 ) in Aldwincle, Northamptonshire, England;? † January 17, 1850 in Wolford Lodge in Honiton, England) was the wife of John Graves Simcoe, the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada.

Elizabeth met John Simcoe for the first time in 1782 and married him the same year. She named the Scarborough Bluffs and the resort of Scarborough West of Toronto to the town of Scarborough in England. Elizabeth and John Graves had four daughters.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Elizabeth and Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Gwillim Spinckes. Elizabeth's father died months before her birth, and her mother shortly after birth. In memory of her mother Elizabeth was given the additional name " Posthuma ".
