Elizabethtown is a village and the administrative seat of Hardin County in the south of the U.S. state of Illinois. In the census in 2010 Elizabethtown had 299 inhabitants.

Geography

Elizabethtown is located at 37 ° 26'57 " north latitude and 88 ° 18'13 " west longitude and extending over 2.0 km ², which consist exclusively of land area. The village lies on the north bank of the Ohio River, which forms the border with Kentucky.

The site is surrounded to the west, north and east by the Shawnee National Forest, a 1,100 acre National Forest, which spans several counties in Southern Illinois.

There is a ferry service from Elizabethtown across the Ohio to Kentucky.

The nearest towns are Rosi Clare (7.4 miles south-west ) and Cave -in -rock (17,3 km to the east), where there is also a ferry across the Ohio to Kentucky.

Elizabethtown is the southern terminus of the Illinois State Route 34, which meets a few kilometers east of the village on the runs in the east-west direction Illinois State Route 146.

In the official census of 2000 a population of 348 was determined. These were distributed to 183 households in 99 families. The population density was 191.9 inhabitants per square kilometer.
