Ellen Meiksins Wood

Ellen Meiksins Wood ( * 1942 in New York City ) is a Marxist historian and former editor of the Monthly Review. It is regarded as a leading English-language Marxist theorist.

Life

Wood was born in 1941 as daughter of Latvian refugees in New York and was named Ellen Meiksins. Her parents saw themselves because of their Jewish faith forced to leave the area occupied by Germany, Latvia, they were also members of the Federation. In Berkeley Wood gained in 1962 from the University of California the BA in Slavic Languages ​​. She then studied political science at the University of California in Los Angeles. In the years 1967-1996 she taught this subject at York University in Toronto. In the 1980s, Wood was on the editorial board of New Left Review, from 1997 to 2000, along with Harry Magdoff and Paul Sweezy, co-editor of Monthly Review.

She was married to Neil Wood, who died in 2003. Together they released in the 70s some essays.

He currently lives and works in London Wood. She writes for the Socialist Register and the American magazine Against the Current.
