Elsa Barraine

Elsa Barraine ( born February 13, 1910 in Paris, † March 20, 1999 in Strasbourg ) was a French composer.

Barraine studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Georges Caussade, Jean Gallon and Paul Dukas. In 1929, she won with the cantata Vierge guerrière the Prix de Rome. She appeared on radio and directed since 1944, the panel house Chant du Monde. 1953 she became a professor at the Conservatoire and in 1972 inspector of music Directorate of the Ministry of Culture.

She composed three symphonies, a fantasy for piano and orchestra, a suite astrologique, drama and film music, chamber music and choral works.
