Embraer EMB 202 Ipanema

The Embraer EMB 200 Ipanema is an agricultural aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer.

Development and Construction

The piston engine driven by a single-seat low-wing has a rigid spur wheel chassis. The first flight of the fabricated all-metal aircraft took place on 30 July 1970. 80 % of all agricultural aircraft in Brazil are from the EMB 200 series. On 15 March 2005, the 1000th machine could be delivered to a customer.

The design was initiated by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, which had worked out the requirements for an agricultural aircraft. The design work began in May 1969, the first prototype ( ID: PP- ZIP). Was completed in the spring of 1970. The approval was granted on 14 December 1971.

The first variant was the EMB 200 with a 260 hp engine and a fixed pitch propeller. The serial production began in 1972 and ended in mid-1974 after 73 aircraft were produced. It was replaced by the improved EMB 201, from the to 1977 a total of 200 machines were produced. This was replaced by the EMB201A which, in addition to the 300 hp motor with variable pitch propeller via a modified wing and various aerodynamic improvements. 3 machines were equipped as EMB 201R for the Brazilian Air Force as tow planes. They were given the military designation Embraer U- 19th

In March 1980, production was transferred to the acquired shortly before Indústria Aeronáutica Neiva Embraer.

In March 1992 the much improved EMB was presented Ipanemão 202, which was 40 % larger. The payload increased from 750 kg to 950 kg. The flight performance were significantly better. It can be equipped with an electrostatic spraying system. 2002 to ethanol- variant was presented, which was awarded to approval on 19 October 2004 and EMB 202A is called. By switching to the alcohol fuel to the engine power increased to 320 hp.
