Emer Costello

Emer Costello ( born September 3, 1962 as Emer Malone ) is an Irish politician (Irish Labour Party ) and was from June 2009 to June 2010 the Lord Mayor of Dublin ( Lord Mayor of Dublin). Since February 2012 she is a Member of the European Parliament.

Life

Costello visited the Dundalk Institute of Technology and University College Dublin. In the latter she received her Bachelor of Arts and a Higher Diploma in Education. A native of Blackrock, Dundalk, County Louth Costello moved on 1 May 1980 after Dublin, to work in the main post office of the state postal service An Post.

In 2003 she was elected in a by-election in the Dublin City Council in order to re- occupy the vacant seat of her husband, Joe Costello. He had resigned his mandate thereat to avoid a dual mandate in addition to his deputies activity. 2004 and 2009 Emer Costello was confirmed in office. Having to June 2009 she was Deputy Mayor of Dublin in June 2008, she was elected in June 2009 for mayor of the city. Her successor in that office Gerry Breen (Fine Gael ) was determined on 28 June 2010.

In February 2012, she moved in after the European Parliament for their party colleagues Proinsias De Rossa. Your vacant seat on the city council occupied April 2012 her party colleague Padraig McLoughlin.

MEP

Costello is chairman of the Delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council and a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and the Conference of Delegation Chairs. As Deputy Costello is the Development Committee, the Special Committee on organized crime, corruption and money laundering, and in the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean
