Emil Oberholzer

Emil Oberholzer ( born December 24, 1883 in Zweibrücken, † May 4, 1958 in New York) was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst.

The son of a factory director studied medicine at the University of Zurich and received his doctorate 1908., He settled in Zurich and Schaffhausen training in psychiatry. In 1912, he was analyzed by Sigmund Freud. In 1919 he opened a practice in Zurich. From the founding of 1919-1928 Oberholzer was president of the Swiss Society for Psychoanalysis. He was the first who performed psychoanalysis in German Switzerland. In 1938 he emigrated to the United States, where he continued to practice as a psychoanalyst.
