EML Admiral Cowan ( M313 ) is a mine hunting boat of the Sandown class, the former HMS Sandown as the lead ship of her class in the Royal Navy, now in the Estonian Navy. It is part of the Estonian mine countermeasures Division Miinilaevade Divisjon. The captain of the ship is Lieutenant Commander Johan -Elias Seljamaa. The Admiral Cowan is the first modernized minehunter the Sandown class.
History
The Sandown ( M101 ) was built in the shipyard of VT Group in the United Kingdom. The ship was launched on April 16, 1988 from the stack and put into service on June 9, 1989. The Royal Navy introduced the HMS Sandown and two of her sister ships, HMS Bridport and HMS Inverness, on 9 October 2006 out of service and sold the ships to the Estonian Navy. It was given its new name after Admiral Sir Walter Henry Cowan, the intervention in the Russian Civil War led the British naval forces in the Baltic Sea for naval support for Estonia to provide during the Estonian War of Independence.

Ship of Arms
The ship emblem was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth on 20 October 2006 in Tallinn. The coat of arms is a red St. Andrew's cross and a red lily on a silver shield dar. The shield is placed in a blue ring, which is in turn surrounded by a golden ship rope. The ship emblem is based on the family crest of Walter Cowan. It was designed by Priit Herodes. The ship 's motto is in Latin Ad Omnia Paratus - in German " Always Ready ".
