EML Sakala ( M314 ) is a mine hunting boat of the Sandown class in the Estonian Navy and belongs to the mine countermeasures Division Miinilaevade Divisjon to. The captain of the ship is Senior Lieutenant Ain Pärna.

The mine hunting boat Sakala is the second of three modernized Sandown - class mine hunting boats, which were acquired by the Royal Navy.

History

The EML Sakala ( M314 ) was built in the UK in the Vosper Thornycroft shipyard. The ship was launched on 27 February 1990 by the stack and entered service a year later on 24 January 1991. The ship's name comes from the ancient Sakala County, which is known as Viljandimaa today, however, is often called Sakalamaa. The Royal Navy introduced the Inverness and two of her sister ships, Bridport and HMS Sandown on 9 October 2006 out of service and sold the ships to the Estonian Navy. The ship emblem was presented in a ceremony on 24 January 2008 in Scotland.

Ship of Arms

A black shield represents the fertile soil of Sakala and the common clothing of men. The rose refers to the capital of Viljandi Sakalamaa. The swords represent Sakalas significant role in ancient Estonian fight for freedom and fighting spirit, because silver represents loyalty. The ship 's motto is in Latin in nomine libertatis - in German "In the name of freedom." The coat of arms was designed by Priit Herodes.
