Emmenopterys henryi is the only species of the genus Emmenopterys within the family of Rubiaceae ( Rubiaceae ). She comes from southern China.

Description

Emmenopterys henryi is an unreinforced, deciduous tree reaching heights of growth of up to 25 meters. The leaves are coriaceous and petiolate. The side sheets are dropped over time.

The flowers appear from June to August. The flowers are in terminal, schirmrispigen inflorescences, at least one of the flowers of the inflorescence is accompanied by a white, foliage leaf -like, resistant liner sheet. The hermaphrodite flowers are fünfzählig. The cup is ciliated and is then discarded. The five petals are white. The style is filiform.

The woody fruit capsules contain a variety of seeds. The fine seeds are winged like a net. The fruits ripen from July to September.

Occurrence

Emmenopterys henryi occurs in forests of southern and central China.

Cultivation

In Europe there are only a few copies in some arboreta. The first copy was introduced in 1907 in Europe. The first bloom in Europe was in 1971 in the Arboretum of Villa Taranto on Lake Maggiore.
