Emmy Wehlen

Emily " Emmy " Wehlen (* 1887 in Mannheim, † 1977, according to other sources 1997) was a German operetta singer and actress.

Life and work

Operetta singer

Emmy Wehlen was born in Mannheim. There she received her vocal training at the Mannheim Conservatory. Wehlen had after their first training engagements at music theaters in Stuttgart, Berlin and Munich. In the Thalia Theater in Berlin she performed, among others, along with the humorist Arnold Rieck. With Rieck they also took the record without men, a piece from the operetta doctor stork on.

In 1909 Wehlen succeeded in London 's international breakthrough. They played, among other things, the role of Sonia in an English version of the operetta in Daly 's Theatre The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár and the role of Olga in the operetta The Dollar Princess of Leo Fall. It was followed by other appearances in musical theater in New York City and London. In 1912, she starred with Mae West in New York in the operetta A Winsome Widow at Loew 's New York Theatre. Screen actress

Emily Wehlen quickly became one of the stars of American film production and film distribution company Metro Pictures Corporation. In parallel to her film appearances but she also continues to be a theater actress and operetta singer in appearance. In 1917, she starred alongside Harry Davenport in the film Sowers and Reapers. In the same year she starred opposite Louis Wolheim in the film The Belle of the Season in appearance. In 1918, she received alongside Joseph Sweeney, the main role in the film Sylvia on a Spree. In 1919 she was co-star of Eugene Pallette in the silent film The Amateur Adventuress. By 1920, she appeared in 18 films in appearance, and they mostly played the lead role. After her last film she returned to the operetta stage, but ended after a few years of their career.
