Joseph Sweeney (actor)

Joseph "Joe" F. Sweeney ( born July 26, 1884 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † November 25, 1963 in New York) was an American theater and film actor.

Life and career

Joseph Sweeney focused most of his acting career in the theater. He had, among others, between 1918 and 1953 some 35 Broadway performances. 1918 appeared with Sylvia on the Spree in his first film on, but not until the early 1950s he began regularly in television and film productions participate. In most cases, he starred in supporting roles as a friendly elderly man. He was above all as a juror No. 9 in the court classic Twelve Angry known. The wise old man is reflected as the first on the side of Henry Fonda's protagonist. The role had already embodied in the television presentation in 1954 Sweeney. He also played discharged into being and The Man in the Gray Flannel in the movies. Even in his death in Sweeney had half a dozen television appearances.
