Emund the Old

Emund the gamle ( the old man ) (* end of the 10th century, † 1060 ) was from 1050 to 1060 King of Sweden. Its Ehfrau is not known.

Emund was the illegitimate son of King Olof III. and the Wendin Edla. He served some time the Prince of Kiev. After the death of his stepbrother Anund Jacob Emund 1050 was King of Sweden.

Bishop Adam of Bremen certified him a bad reputation, but may also be because that Emund Bishop Åsmund supported, which was influenced by the Orthodox Church. But at least he had in several medieval sources the nickname " slemme " ( the worst ) was obtained.

Under his rule, the border between Sweden and Denmark was set for the first time. For between Danish and Swedish settlements were large uninhabited areas. This should be done soon after a meeting between him and Sven Estridsson. Whether it is to have it ceded Blekinge, as he was accused, is not certain.

Since his only son Anund Beginning in 1056 died in the fight against Kväner as a result of poisoning, went out with Emund 1060 the male line of the Ynglinger on the Swedish throne. A daughter may have been married to Stenkil Ragnvaldsson.
