Ennio Marchetto
Ennio Marchetto ( born February 20, 1960 in Venice / Italy) is a world renowned and award-winning comedian and quick-change artist who has developed his own theatrical language. This combines mime, dance, music and the rapid change of its costumes, which are made entirely of cardboard and paper. In the last 18 years Ennio has performed in over 70 countries and more than one million people. His shows have been honored with numerous awards and highly praised by international critics.
Biography
Ennio was born on February 20, 1960 in Venice, in the neighboring house of Carlo Goldoni. In early childhood already inspired him the Disney cartoons, after which it was modeled he cut out paper figures for his little sister and decorations for the Christmas tree. The Carnival in Venice, theater performances and workshops by Lindsay Kemp and dance performances by Pina Bausch brought him then later on the idea of designing their own show.
In the early 1980s designed Ennio extravagant costumes and masks for the Carnival in Venice, who just underwent a renaissance. At that time, Ennio worked in his father's company, a repair shop for espresso machines. All were convinced that he would continue the workshop in the old family tradition, only Ennio not. While he worked there, he lost himself in daydreams and in one of these he saw Marilyn Monroe in front of him - dressed entirely in paper. On the same day he created his first paper costume, with which he brought friends and family laugh and amused the people on the street during Carnival. In 1988 he received the Entertainment Festival Venice for his creations the Golden Lion.
In the following years he created more paper figures. With just a few costumes Ennio presented his show at Zanzara d' Oro, the Golden mosquito, a yearly competition for young comedians. Ennio was there awarded the first prize and soon entered also on television and in cabaret events. He developed more and more characters and people and began to think about your own theater show.
His first attempt on this terrain was a written and staged by Daniele Sala piece, which was about the life of famous around the turn of the century change artist Leopold Fregoli. Ennio sang, recited and turned here in quick succession using his paper costumes. But he quickly realized that this kind of show did not meet his own expectations and finished it after only four performances.
Following the last performance he met Sosthen Hennekam, a fashion and costume designer, had invited the friends to Ennio's show. This encounter was the beginning of a long collaboration. Sosthen devised numerous improvements, such as origami techniques with which it was possible to change the costumes even faster. After a few months Sosthen and Ennio enough costumes were designed for a one hour show. The first appearance on the Festa dell'Unita in Bologna was an instant success, which led to more television appearances and guest services throughout Italy. A year later, the London producer Glynis Henderson saw a video recording of the show and offered Ennio then on to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Ennio accepted the invitation. However, half of his figures of Italian origin were - beyond the home she knew no one.
So Ennio created in just two weeks, 18 new " Papp - Stars", including crowd favorites such as Queen Elizabeth II, Freddie Mercury, Tina Turner and the Venus de Milo. The first few days in Edinburgh were very hard; there were only a few spectators and Ennio wished he would have stayed in Venice. But then a first critics to see the show, Malcolm Hay of Time Out magazine. He wrote an enthusiastic article. A few days later, the show was up to the last date sold out and Ennio became a cult star of the festival. From then on, everything went very quickly. After several tours of UK, guest appearances on London's West End and at international festivals and Ennio Sosthen at the Laurence Olivier Awards in 1994 in London nominated in the category Best entertainers. In the same year Granada Television Celebrations, Paper Marilyn produced a one hour documentary about Ennio's life and his artistic career. At the first MTV European Music Awards in Berlin the following year, Ennio appeared together on with stars from his personality repertoire, including Prince, George Michael and Björk. Other international engagements followed: a four-month stint at the Paris Théâtre Grevin, a Germany - tour with Erasure and an appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City - just to name a few. In 1995 he received the prize of the festival performance Ennio d' Acteur in Cannes and 1996 the price Sebastià Gasch in Barcelona.
In 1998, Ennio was invited to perform with the Spice Girls, Bryan Adams and other artists at the annual transferred from the BBC Royal Variety show for Prince Charles. In addition, he was commissioned on the occasion of the birthday of Queen Beatrix with an exclusive show for the Dutch Royal Family.
With its off- Broadway show Ennio was nominated for a Drama Desk Award in 1999, after performances in San Francisco and Los Angeles followed. In Los Angeles, he received the Garland Award.
In summer 2001 he was invited to perform at the White Tie and Tiara Ball, an important AIDS Gala, the annual aligns Elton John at his estate in Oxfordshire. The following year, Ennio took part in an exclusive performance by Elton John and José Carreras on the luxury liner Seven Seas Mariner. He has toured extensively in Italy and entered into venues such as the Ciak in Milan, in the Parioli in Rome and at the Arena del Sole, Bologna on. In Barcelona he guested for six weeks at the Capitol Theatre. In addition, he has appeared in various television programs at prime time.
2003 Ennio returned to the UK and Ireland and also all the tour dates were sold out. Performances in the Live Floor Show of BBC2 and the popular Italian TV show Uno di Noi with Gianni Morandi on Rai Uno followed. After two months of performances in Berlin and Hamburg Ennio returned again back to Los Angeles to inspire the audience also there in a packed house. Moreover, it was re-opened his show with the Napa Opera House in Napa Valley in California and here was no place for the entire three weeks yet.
Further appearances in Germany and Edinburgh followed in 2004, after the premiere of Ennio's new show in Amsterdam, which resulted in the historic Niewe de la Mar Theater was sold out a month to the last seat. Had similar success Ennio in Palm Beach, Florida, with his performances in Cuillo Centre for the Arts. Together with Nancy Sinatra, the New York Dolls, Morrissey and the Sparks he appeared at the Morrissey launched Meltdown Festival at the South Bank Centre in London. At the beginning of 2005, the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen was celebrated in Copenhagen Parken Stadium and transmitted on television throughout Europe. Prior to the Danish royal family and 40,000 other spectators Ennio has performed with specially designed for the occasion figures to honor the Danish poet. Among the guests were Olivia Newton-John, Tina Turner, Isabel Allende, Jean Michel Jarre and Sir Roger Moore. Paris Saint- Germain Auditorium Ennio premiered many new French figures, in the winter he returned again back to the city to perform at La Cigale. He was also seen in the French television show of Patrick Sebastien and in the popular show Star Académie. Ennio's show was in that same year, back in the U.S. as a guest: in Los Angeles, Napa Valley and Austin (Texas), also the artist appeared in theaters in Hong Kong, Singapore, Mannheim, Dusseldorf and Berlin.
At the beginning of 2006 put Ennio continued his successful show in Berlin and started on an extensive tour to Italy. There, he performed three weeks in Rome and also returned to his hometown of Venice back to there for a week perform a special Mardi Gras show at the Goldoni Theatre. He also took the world participate in various charity events. At the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California his show was an absolute summer hit. Ennio ended the year with a sold-out venues in Rome and a special Christmas program at the South Bank Centre in London, a show with lots of new cardboard icons, including Lily Allen, Boy George as a street sweeper and a crazy Vincent van Gogh in the style of Gnarls Barkley.
2007 Ennio was seen in Italy, Berlin, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Dubai and the USA. He was also a regular guest in the cult show of Italian television Markette La7.
In 2008, he was (in addition to guest performances, among others in South Africa, Turkey, USA, Berlin) to see when John Travolta made of paper in the music video of the U.S. pop duo Blow -Up, which was taken in Istanbul under the direction of Sosthen Hennekam.
In January 2009, Ennio appeared in the show "World of Comedy" ( RTL ) to, among others, as Eminem and Gloria Gaynor.
In October 2011, Ennio enthusiastic visitors to the Jürgen -Hart satire Matinee at the end of the Leipzig Lachmesse.
