Enrico dal Covolo

Enrico dal Covolo SDB ( born October 5, 1950 in Feltre, Veneto, Italy ) is an Italian priest and religious Roman Catholic bishop. He is since 2010 Rector of the Pontifical Lateran University.

Life

Enrico dal Covolo studied classical philology at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and religious studies at the Pontifical Institute patristic Augustinianum in Rome. He received his doctorate in patristic theology.

In 1973, he joined the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco and received priestly ordination in 1976. He was vicar in Chiari (Brescia) and in Milan, later head of the Salesian Ispettoria Lombardo Emiliana and rector of the Istituto Tecnico Industriale Don Bosco. In 1986 he became professor of ancient Greek Christian literature at the Faculty of Christian and Classical Literature ( Pontifical Institutum Altioris Latinitatis ) at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome and dean of the faculty in 1993 to 2000.

From 1988 to 1997 he was also responsible for the training of deacons in the Community of St. Thomas University. In 1999 he was a member of the Pontifical Committee of Historical Sciences, a member of the Commission for the preparation of the Great Jubilee Year 2000 and head of the Pontifical Academy of Theology and of the Pontifical International Marian Academy. From 2000 to 2003 he was Pro- Rector of the UPS as well as coordinator for pastoral education in the universities in the diocese of Rome. In 2000 he was Postulator General for the Causes of Saints of the Salesians. 2002 John Paul II appointed him as a consultant to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and later the Congregation for the Clergy. 2009 was then appointed as a member of the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology.

On June 30, 2010 he was beatified by Benedict XVI. appointed as successor to Rino Fisichella rector of the Pontifical Lateran University and on 15 September the same year as Titular Bishop of Heraclea. He received his episcopal consecration on October 9, 2010 Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB in St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators were the Cardinal Vicar for the Diocese of Rome, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, and the prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, Cardinal Franc Rode CM.

In 2011 he was appointed Grand Officer ( Commander with Star ) of the Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.

Work

Dal Covolo has published numerous scientific papers and works. He belongs to the editorial staff of Corona Patrum, which published a series of patristic texts. He was editor of the Maritano l' ai Padri della Chiesa Introduzione (1990-1999), a six-volume introduction to the rise of Christianity. He belongs to the editorial boards of the journals Annales theologici, Filosofia e Teologia, Path, Ricerche Teologiche, Sacrum Ministry, Salesianum and Theotókos.
