Enrico Gasparri

Enrico Cardinal Gasparri ( born July 25, 1871 in Ussita, Macerata Province, Italy, † May 20, 1946 in Rome ) was a Vatican diplomat and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Enrico Gasparri received August 10, 1894, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He studied theology in Rome and philosophy. In 1915 he was called by Pope Benedict XV. appointed Titular Archbishop of Sebastea. He received his episcopal consecration on 12 December 1915, later Cardinal Vittori Amedeo Ranuzzi de ' Bianchi. Gasparri in 1916 Internuncio of Colombia and later Apostolic Nuncio of Colombia (1917 ) and Brazil ( 1920).

In the consistory of 14 December 1925, Enrico Gasparri by Pius XI. taken as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola in the College of Cardinals. In 1933, he was then cardinal bishop of Velletri - Segni of the titular church.

By Pope Pius XI. Gasparri was appointed in 1933 to the prefect of the Apostolic Signatura. He fulfilled this task until his death in 1946.

Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Gasparri, who in 1929 Lateran Treaty signed, was his uncle.
