The Eppstein Bahnhof ( partly as Eppstein (Taunus ) called ) was created in the course of the construction of the Main -Lahn -Bahn from the Hessian Ludwig Railway and initially received a temporary reception building. The line was opened in its entire length on 15 October 1877. Today, there is a stop of the S -Bahn line S2 S-Bahn Rhein- Main.

Track systems

Due to the location of the track in the narrow Lorsbachtal and the resulting topographically specified fixed points, in particular the Eppsteiner tunnel, the station came on the community Eppstein to lie across the street side of the Black creek and had to be connected via a bridge. Also had the creek that preserve the scope of the future station flowed through a new stream bed.

The original single-track line had to park a passing loop and rush tracks to vehicles in the station area. The Southern Railways of the plant served the freight.

The track was prepared from the beginning for a second track, but this was postponed until 1914. This meant for the station area an expansion: South of the two main lines were arranged two passing loops, except the main platform ( platform 1) there was now another one in an island with two platform edges ( tracks 2 and 3). The south to track system for freight transport has also been redesigned and built a new goods shed, the only in the course of construction of the new tunnel Eppstein (2009-2013) was demolished. This is also the third track was dispensable and in favor of car parking space waived, making the station now has only two platform tracks.

Take the S- Bahn line to Niedernhausen came the electrification of the line and building expansion also in the station area of Eppstein.

With the new Eppsteiner tunnel adaptation measures with there einschwenkenden tracks are connected, the slightly extend further north than before. In this context, the platforms were created. The redesign of the open spaces is currently (2013 ) underway.

Reception building

The Eppstein Bahnhof initially received a temporary, one-storey reception building framework. There was also a residence hall, which was only demolished the interior work for the S -Bahn in 1971 even before 1885. 1903, the station building was completely replaced by a historicist building. This building - become functionless in the 1990s - was after it had been empty for 10 years largely taken over by a company in the town of Eppstein and renovated in 2005. Today, this place is a " mobility center ", the citizens of the city office Eppstein and gastronomy. With its opening in May 2007, the name of the city railway station was introduced and the access road was named " Am Stadtbahnhof ". Since then, the address of Eppsteiner station on the city train station is 1
