Erasmus Finx

Erasmus Finx, called Erasmus Francisci (* November 19, 1627 in Lübeck, † December 20, 1694 in Nuremberg) was a German polymath, writer and poet hymns.

Life

Finx was born the son of a lawyer. He attended high school in Lüneburg and the Pädagogium in Szczecin. He studied law and made as a tutor in the family of Wallenrodt an educational trip through Italy, France and the Netherlands. Since 1657 he worked as a proofreader at the Nuremberg publisher Endter. In 1688 he became a councilor of Count Heinrich Friedrich zu Hohenlohe -Langenburg and peers.

He has written a variety of different fonts and content is considered polymath. He was one of the most read authors of his time. His Infernal Proteus Goethe studied as a source for his own, and even the romantics have processed many substances of this book. He used include the following pseudonyms: The Narrative, Freundlieb Ehrenreich purchase of life, Theophil anti - Scepticus. The Unpartheyische, Gottlieb Raw Rucht, Theophilus Urbinus and Gottlieb Warmund.

Among his pupils was the hymn writer Wolfgang Christoph Dessler in Nuremberg.
