Ercole I d'Este, Duke of Ferrara

Ercole I d' Este (* October 26 1431 in Ferrara, † June 15, 1505 ibid ) was one of the illegitimate children Niccolò III. d' Este, the Marquis of Ferrara, Modena and Reggio. He succeeded his half-brother Borso d' Este on August 20, 1471 as the Duke of the said territories after.

Ercole's performance is the economic and cultural prosperity of his duchies. He let fix Ferrara from 1490 by the architect Biagio Rossetti ( 1447-1516 ), but also extend, in Europe for the first time - in a medieval city - wide and straight roads were built.

Ercole I was since 3 July 1473 Eleonora of Aragon ( 1450-1493 ) married the daughter of King Ferdinand I. He and his wife had six children, four of whom are among the most important members of the family, at least one other was out of wedlock.
