Erethistidae

Erethistes pusillus

The Erethistidae are a family of fish from the order of catfish -like ( Siluriformes ). They are found in North India, Nepal, Southwest China, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Features

Erethistidae resemble the mountain catfishes ( Sisoridae ), but are significantly smaller with body lengths of about two to ten centimeters. Your shoulder girdle has a Coracoidfortsatz which reaches far behind the base of the pectoral fins. They have four pairs of barbels and usually a large adipose fin. The species of the subfamily Continae have a long, thin Adhäsionsapparat on the belly, which is formed by Integumentsfalten and serves to hold in fast-flowing waters of the position. The other subfamily, the Erethistinae, lacking such an apparatus.

The Erethistidae the superfamily Sisoroidea be imputed, which is placed in the "Big Asica " group by molecular biological investigations. The family includes two subfamilies with seven genera and about 30 species:
