Eric Dier Jeremy Edgar (born 15 January 1994 Cheltenham ) is an English football player who is under contract with the Portuguese first division side Sporting Lisbon.

Association
Dier left at the age of ten years his home town of Cheltenham, his mother got a job offer from Portugal to work there during the European Football Championship 2004. His football skills were his former school teachers on fast. Since these contacts with scouts from Sporting Lisbon had, the boy soon played in the youth of the Portuguese traditional club. In 2010 his parents moved the teenager back to England, however, commander remained in Portugal, in order to live henceforth in the youth academy of the club. In April of the same year, the defender signed his first professional contract. Also English clubs, such as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, Diers Favorite team as a kid, had interest in him.
In January 2011, the British returned for half a year back to his home country to play there for the youth team of Everton FC. There he was responsible for the Sporting Lisbon, according to the opportunity to get to evolve in a more challenging environment.
On August 26, 2012 Dier made his debut in the Segunda Liga, the second division of Portugal, Sporting Lisbon B in a 3-1 away win against Atlético CP. His first goal he scored a free kick against the second representation of the rivals FC Porto.
His debut in the Primeira Liga, he completed on November 11, 2012 in a 1-0 home win against SC Braga, where he provided the groundwork for the only goal. At 2-2 draw away against Moreirense FC, he scored his first goal for Sporting's first team.
National
Dier was originally supposed to play for the Portuguese national team, but this would have been possible only after reaching his 18th birthday. The teenager was part of an advertising campaign of the English sports equipment supplier Umbro, where he was to be seen among others in the jersey of the England team. After this action, the Daily Mail called the British Association, which still had no contact with Dier, to put on in conjunction with the talent. After he signed a contract at Everton, announced a spokesman for the FA that it intends to nominate for the national youth team him in the coming weeks.
He played his first game for the U-19 selection of England on 16 November 2011 in a 1-1 draw against Slovakia.
On 28 May 2013, was appointed to the squad for the U-20 World Cup 2013 in Turkey. He made his debut on June 16 with a 3-0 victory in a preseason game against Uruguay.
Private
Dier comes from a sports-loving family. His grandfather Ted Croker was 1973-1989 General Secretary of the FA and president of the football club Cheltenham Town. He is also the great-nephew of Peter Croker, who was active for Charlton Athletic. His father Jeremy was a professional tennis player.
