Éric Lucas

Éric Lucas ( born May 25, 1971 in Montreal, Canada ) is a retired Canadian professional boxer.

Professional career

Éric Lucas earned his debut fight in December 1991 against Errol Brown. In 1995, he lost in his 20th professional fight against the Americans Bryant Brannon and then temporarily changed in the light heavyweight division. He resigned in January 1996 against the French WBC champion Fabrice Tiozzo, but lost on points. Back at super middleweight, he was already in June 1996 against IBF world champion Roy Jones Jr. the next title shot, but failed again.

In December 1999, Lucas entered into an eliminator of the WBC Association against the British Glenn Catley and defeated by technical knockout in the twelfth round. Nevertheless, he was 1.5 years later - in the meantime he had only one fight was - boxing for the vacant WBC title in a rematch against Catley. Lucas won this encounter on 10 July 2001 in his hometown of Montreal by Ko in the seventh round of the WBC world championship at super middleweight.

After three successful title defenses, among others, against Omar Sheika, Éric Lucas was defeated in April 2003 in Leipzig Markus Beyer. After Beyer in August of the same year injured in the fight against Danny Green and had to take a longer break, Lucas received another shot at the title. After two wins and winning the WBC Continental title, he boxed for the WBA title against Mikkel Kessler. The battle ended in defeat for the Canadians. He initially ended after his career, but returned in December 2009 after nearly four years of inactivity in the ring back. On 28 May 2010 Lucas lost to the Mexican Librado Andrade and subsequently went definitively from active boxing back.
