Fabrice Tiozzo

Fabrice Tiozzo ( born May 8, 1969 in Saint- Denis ) is a former French boxer. He is the younger brother of Christophe Tiozzo, who has also contributed a world title in boxing.

Amateur

As an amateur, he scored 41 victories in six defeats. He participated as Halbmittelgewichtler part in the European Junior Championships 1986 in Copenhagen, left there, however early against Dariusz Michalczewski from. Successful ran the Junior World Championships in 1987 in Havana, where he finished second in the middleweight class in second place. Even when held in the same year Military World Championship in he finished second, he lost in the final against the Americans Anthony Hembrick. After French middleweight champion he was in 1988, he moved to the professionals.

Professional

In November 1988, he turned pro, defeating his first 25 opponents. In 1991, he secured the French championship in the light heavyweight division. On April 3, 1993, he was defeated by Virgil Hill in the fight for the WBA title on points disputed, he was there on the ground.

With a knockout in the seventh round against the undefeated defending champion Eddy Smulders Netherlands he became European Champion in March 1994. The title he defended twice, until he got another chance to fight a world title.

On 16 June 1995, it was possible to win the WBC title with a points victory against him the veterans Mike McCallum, McCallum had in this fight for the first time in his career to the ground. Following a title defense against Canadian Eric Lucas he put the belt down again and went up in the cruiserweight division.

On November 8, 1997, he defeated the Americans Nate Miller and secured the WBA cruiserweight title. The belt he defended until 2000, four times before he again met in a rematch on Virgil Hill. In this encounter, however Tiozzo had already in the first minutes three times to the ground and lost so by TKO in the first round. After this defeat and the loss titles he fought only sporadically over the next 3.5 years, he completed only three more fights.

In 2004, he then returned to the light heavyweight division. He defeated in the fight for the WBA title the Italian Silvio Branco and defended the title in February 2005 with a TKO in the sixth round against Dariusz Michalczewski.

In October 2006, he announced his retirement from boxing. Virgil Hill was the only one who could beat him in the professional ring.
