Erich Mückenberger

Erich Mückenberger ( born June 8, 1910 in Chemnitz, † 10 February 1998 in Berlin) was a German politician of the SED. He was a member of the Politburo of the SED Central Committee and was chairman the Central Party Control Commission of the SED in the GDR.

Life and work

Mückenberger completed by both the elementary and middle school from 1924 to 1927 trained as a locksmith. In 1924, he joined the Socialist Workers Youth and served as a youth leader, county and Gaujugendleiter Chemnitz active. In 1927 he became member of the SPD.

1927 to 1928 he attended the Higher Technical School for textile industry and worked until 1930 as a mechanic and Weber. Until 1933, he was unemployed, then he worked as a mechanic and automatic adjuster.

From 1933 he worked illegally in Chemnitz. In August 1935 he was arrested and was from November 1935 to August 1936 in Sachsenhausen concentration castle. After several processes, he was sentenced in 1938 to ten months in prison for treason. In 1942 he was arrested again and was sent to a penal battalion of the Armed Forces, where he was wounded in January 1945. From April to August he was in English captivity.

Mückenberger was after the forced merger of the SPD and the KPD to the SED member of the SED. In 1946 he attended the State Party School of the SED and was in the lead of the SED urban district Chemnitz, after visiting the Party School of the SED - country line Saxony active. 1949 to 1953 he was First Secretary of the SED - country line Thuringia or the SED district leadership Erfurt.

Mückenberger was 1950-1989 deputy of the People's Chamber, from 1958 to 1963 as a member of the Committee on Agriculture, forestry and food industry and from 1971 as a member of the Presidium and chairman of the SED Group. Also from 1950 to 1989 he was a member of the Central Committee and candidate, from 1958 Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED. He was also a 1952-1954 District Tags deputy of Erfurt, 1953-1961 Secretary of the Central Committee of the SED.

In the 1960s, he was exposed as Secretary of Agriculture fierce criticism that he survived unscathed. 1960 to 1961 he attended the Party School of the Communist Party in Moscow and was then first secretary of the SED district leadership Frankfurt (Oder ) and from 1963 deputy district tags. 1971-1989 he was the successor of Hermann Matern Chairman of the Central Party Control Commission of the Central Committee of the SED. On November 8, 1989 Mückenberger was from the Politburo of the Central Committee, then ruled in January from the SED. A process for manslaughter and complicity in the GDR border regime was set in August 1996 because of unfitness.

Mückenberger in 1957 and 1970 and 1985 with the Karl -Marx- Orden awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit.
