Erick Sermon

Erick Sermon ( born November 25, 1968 in New York City; Erick Onasis ) is an American rapper and producer.

Biography

In the late 1980s sermon with the hip - hop group EPMD ( Erick and Parrish Makin Dollars) was known. After four albums together, he took in 1993 with his first solo album No Pressure on and was able to seamlessly continued mutual success. The album reached the top 20 of the U.S. album charts and with StayReal he had a dance and No. 1 rap singles hit. The second solo album Double or Nothing repeated the success in 1995 and made him finally to an established solo artist. In addition, he was always active as a producer and remixer for other famous artists such as Das EFX, En Vogue, Blackstreet and Shaquille O'Neal.

Despite the solo success he joined in 1997 again with Parrish Smith together and published two further EPMD albums before the duo broke up again after disputes in the late 1990s.

At the time, but Erick Sermon had the trio Def Squad founded together with two other hip hop greats, Redman and Keith Murray. Although they released only two albums together, but then worked to continue getting back together.

After the second Def Squad album Sermon went to J Records, where in 2001 its most successful solo album Music appeared. With the title song, in which older recordings of Marvin Gaye had been added mixed, it reached number 22 on the Billboard charts and was the first successful well in the UK. Equally successful was the title React, a collaboration with Redman, which appeared a year later with the eponymous album, but did not sell as well as hoped. Therefore sparked J Records, which had expected after the great success of the Def Squad, more so in 2003 the contract again and the next album Chill Town, New York was released by Motown Records.

Since then, Erick Sermon has deferred his solo activities and was active in numerous collaborations among others, the Def Squad, as well as a producer. 2008 reappeared a joint album from EPMD.
