Erik Gottfrid Christian Brandt

Erik gottfrid Christian Brandt ( born August 31, 1884 in Borrby, Kristianstad Lan, † October 22, 1955 in Stora Tuna, Kopparbergs län) was a Swedish politician (Social Democratic Workers' Party ).

Brandt came from a southern Swedish pastor's family. After studying at the University of Lund, he was an elementary school teacher in 1911 in Luleå. Since 1915, he served as inspector of schools in the province of Dalarna. In 1938 he was elected to the first chamber of the Riksdag, which he served until 1943. Brandt had gotten through two deaths and two resignations by party members a promising list place. In the Reichstag, Brandt committed vehemently against German National Socialism, as he protested publicly against the violence of Kristallnacht on 9-10. November 1938.

Brandt was best known for his ironic action in which he was nominated in 1939 Adolf Hitler for the Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination was never seriously intended, but they can be seen in the protest against the nomination of Neville Chamberlain. During the Second World War he defied determined the policy of the German Empire.
