Erik Hämäläinen

Vesa Erik Hämäläinen ( born April 20, 1965 in Rauma ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who played from 1982 to 2008, among other things Lukko Rauma, KalPa Kuopio and Helsinki Jokerit in the SM- liiga.

Career

Erik Hämäläinen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at Lukko Rauma, for which he was active from 1982 to 1988, first for six years in the SM- liiga. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1985 in the tenth round as a total 197 players from the Detroit Red Wings, for which, however, he never played. In his last season in Rauma, in the 1987/88 season, he was with the team of Finnish runner. Then the defender joined Rauma League rivals KalPa Kuopio, for which he played until 1992. Before the season 1992/93 was committed by Jokerit Helsinki Hämäläinen, with which the first and only time in his career he became Finnish Champion 1994. The following year, Hämäläinen reached with his team again the final, in which he was subject, however, TPS Turku with his team after playing with 2:3, and won the European Cup.

In summer 1995, the Finn moved to AIK Solna in the Swedish Elitserien, for whom he ran aground three years. He then returned to his Finnish homeland, where he spent three more seasons was for his former club Lukko Rauma on the ice. After Hämäläinen one more time abroad worked at SC Langnau in the Swiss National League A in the 2001/ 02 season, played the defender up to end of his career in 2008 again for Lukko Rauma in the SM- liiga, where he 26 years before his began career.

Internationally

For Finland Hämäläinen took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 1984 and 1985, as well as the A World Championships in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 in part. In addition, he was in the squad Finland at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.
