Erika Metzger

Erika Metzger ( *, ?? †) was a German table tennis player. She lived in Berlin. In 1928 she won the first German medal at the World Table Tennis Championship.

After Metzger in 1927 won the International German Championships in Berlin, she was out in the German ranking in 1928 and 1929 on the first rank.

She was thus the first woman who was reported by the German Table Tennis Association for a world championship. As the only German in 1928 she took part in the World Cup. Right away she took 2nd Place: In the final they defeated the then Hungarian world-class player Maria Mednyanszky with 0:3. In the mixed doubles, she won the silver medal. These were the first medals, the German participants were able to win at a World Cup.

At the next World Championships, she won her biggest success: in double it, together with Mona elm world champion. They prevailed against the favorites Mednyanszky Maria / Anna Sipos from Hungary.
