1928 World Table Tennis Championships

The 2nd World Table Tennis Championship took place from 25 to 29 January 1928 in Stockholm ( Sweden) instead - although this event was in rotation already planned for 1927, but this failed due to organizational difficulties.

The tournament began in the boxing arena in Tjärhofsgatan, but had to because of the large audience Andrangs into a circus move.

Nine teams took part. In the end, three teams were level on points at the top, namely England, Austria and Hungary. The decision finally won round Hungary and was thus again Team World Champion.

Striking: In the first three places, the same teams ended up as the first world championship. The newly added countries Latvia and Sweden did well and took places 4 and 5

In individual the Hungarian Maria Mednyanszky defended her title. Only in the men there were with Zoltan Mechlovits a new world champion.

Cutting off the Germans

The German team took 7th place again, but this time was not the last. Erika Metzger became Vice World Champion in singles.

  • On the ITTF Congress the counting of 21 points per sentence was mandatory for all nations with a large majority.
