1948 World Table Tennis Championships

The 15th World Table Tennis Championship took place from 4 to 11 February 1948 in London / Wembley (England) instead. Venue was the Empire Pool (now Wembley Arena) in Wembley.

Germany was, as early as 1947, not represented in Paris. Switzerland also lacked financial reasons.

In the women's Gizella Farkas won the title by a mistake by the referee. In the semifinals against Angelica Rozeanu sat in the fifth set at the registry of the 22:22 time game. According to rule now had to choose the next point, if it was achieved within 5 minutes. Rozeanu won the next point and should have thus won the game. However, the referee waved play on, unaware of the rule to a two- point lead. Farkas eventually won that set 29:27. Because of this infraction, let the tournament organizers repeat the game the next day. This time Farkas won regularly and moved into the final.
