2008 World Team Table Tennis Championships
The 53rd World Table Tennis Championship for teams took place from 24 February to 2 March 2008 held in Guangzhou. The Chinese city received in May 2005 by the participants of the Annual General Meeting of the ITTF the contract. This makes China after 1961, 1995 and 2005 for the fourth time host of the World Table Tennis Championship.
The championships were held at Guangzhou Gymnasium. Both the men's and the women's, the Chinese team won the World Cup.

Competition mode
The ladies ' and men's competitions are held according to the same mode.
According to the results of the last World Team Championships, the teams are divided into four divisions. The strongest 24 teams playing in Division 1. The 2nd and 3rd Division also consist of 24 teams, the remaining teams will compete in the 4th Division. Only the participants of the Division 1 play for the world title in the other divisions is about 25 places down.
In the first three divisions, there are four groups A, B, C and D, each with six teams. The teams will be randomly assigned to groups before the World Cup. In each group, the teams determine the ranking process in FFA.
Following the group matches of the Division 1 finals will be played in KO system according to the following scheme: The winners of the four groups qualified for the quarter-finals. The runners-up and third play in the second round. In this way, the numbers 1 to 12 are determined.
To the places 13 to 24 fight the remaining teams in the Division 1. The two bottom-placed, so 8 teams are drawn together to 4 pairings. The winners of these pairings play against the Fourth Group for places 13 to 20

In a team battle system is played by the Modified Swaythling Cup. A maximum of 5 singles matches are possible. If a team has won 3 games, the fight is stopped. Each pairing will take place in 3 winning sets.

The ladies were in Group C after beating Thailand, Austria, Belarus, and Spain, and a defeat against Hong Kong in second place. In the second round they lost 2:3 with Romania. After victories over the USA and Croatia they reached 9th place
Gentlemen

ITTF Congress
