Wang Nan (table tennis)

Wang Nan (Chinese王 楠, Pinyin Wáng Nan, born October 23, 1978 in Fushun ) is a Chinese table tennis player. She was out on first place in the ITTF world rankings between 1999 and 2001 and won at the previous three Olympic participations four gold medals. In addition, it is so far the only player to both the single and the double competition won in a row at three World Cups.

Career

Wang Nan began playing table tennis at the age of seven years. She is left-handed. In 1994 she won the Sweden Open, and was appointed the following year in the Chinese national team. At the Asian Games in 1998 in Bangkok Wang Nan won all four gold medals achievable in singles, doubles, mixed and with the team. At the end of the year they won the final tournament of the ITTF Pro Tour. Followed in 1999 to participate in the World Championships in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, where Wang Nan Gold won in singles and doubles ( with Li Ju ). In the same year she was on the first place in the world rankings for the first time.

At the Olympic Summer Games 2000 in Sydney Wang Nan won gold in singles and doubles ( with Li Ju ). In 2002, she was in two finals in singles and the team competition of the Asian Games in Busan, but lost in both. This led to criticism of their occurrence and allegations that she was too inactive and have too little self-confidence. There was speculation that Wang Nan would end her career. But only a year later at the World Table Tennis Championship 2003 in Paris won Wang Nan titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, she could not defend her individual title, but repeated winning the doubles tournament ( with Zhang Yining ). At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing she won with the team their fourth gold medal and a silver medal in singles.

Policy

Wang Nan is a member of the Communist Party and was elected to the Chinese Congress. Currently (2010), she works in the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China.

Private

Wang Nan was married in 2006 with the real estate broker Guo Bin. She has a son (* 2010).
